What does career success look like for you? I recently asked a client this question when she told me her goal was to move up the ladder of success at her new job. After a lengthy pause, she said she really didn’t know. Can you relate to her uncertainty? How would you define career or work success? In Crossing the Unknown Sea – Work as a Pilgrimage of Identity, David Whyte suggests some elements for success when he writes: The human approach to work can be naïve, fatalistic, power-mad, money-grubbing, unenthusiastic, cynical,...read more
The growth and success of your business depends on building trusting relationships with other people. Ask yourself this one simple question: Do my words pull people towards me or push them away? This question requires a willingness on your part to honestly evaluate how effectively your words build trust and respect. I warn you that what you discover may sting a bit. That was my case when my 21 year old son told me that my words (suggestions) overwhelmed him! Rather than building our relationship, I was pushing him away with too much...read more
I was at an event to raise money for “at-risk” students and was captivated by a youth who had tattoed, I am my worst enemy, across his chest. I struck up a conversation and discovered that he had already learned a life-shaping lesson: Your mind can be your best friend or your worst enemy. In the school of life, he had learned that lesson the hard way and etched it into his life in a way he’d always remember. I think we’ve all learned that lesson at some time or another. The truth is that your growth and...read more
In an April 2013 article posted in CNN Money entitled Your Job Might Be Killing You, it reported that the most disenchanted employees developed heart problems at a 79% higher rate than their less-stressed peers. That got my attention because I help people thrive by developing a TRIUMPHANT HEART along with a RADIANT IDENTITY and VIBRANT EXPRESSION. Though my triumphant heart refers to emotional triumph, one cannot overlook the impact upon our hearts when we stay stuck in survival mode for days, weeks and months. The numerous effects of...read more
Your heart’s desire is to thrive – to feel fully alive, to expand, flourish, and prosper. The desire to thrive is so natural and STRONG that we cannot suppress or ignore it. When you do or if you try to meet your desires in unhealthy, immoral or unethical ways, you’ll pay a huge price. The price you pay is being stuck in survival mode vs a thriving one. You will: * Stunt your possibilities vs expanding your success * Feel an emptiness vs a vibrant life * Compete and lose vs collaborate and win * Make destructive choices vs...read more
With the recent passing of Debbie Ford, I am overwhelmed with sadness and a deep appreciation for all that she gave. She offered so much of herself and expressed her true self through her vulnerability, transparency, wisdom and love. She greatly impacted my life through her writing and her transformational workshop, The Shadow Process, which I attended in 2007. It’s ironic how just a few days ago, I was thinking of how blessed I was to have taken that workshop. It transformed my life. One of the most powerful exercises we...read more

In my last post I promised to share a quick and easy assessment to check on the condition of your heart. All you have to do is read 5 statements and rate yourself on a scale of 1-10 (1-rarely, 10-always). WARNING: Your results may surprise or even shock you. I hope you’ll treat the results and any uncomfortable feeling as prompts to LISTEN to your heart. Transformation of your heart begins with awareness. HEART TEST 1. _____ I clean my heart of all negative emotions every day. 2. _____ People describe me as being...read more
I vividly recall the first time my three year old daughter gave me a LONG and HIGHLY passionate kiss on the lips. It seems funny now, but at the time I was unsettled by it and actually thought, ”Is this normal?” Given the state of my heart back then, I now know it wasn’t such an unusual reaction given my upbringing. Without placing blame (been there, done that), suffice it to say that physical affection and expressions of love were just not part of my childhood. My precious daughter’s kiss was out of my comfort...read more
Your mind functions like a race car which has more than one driver. Each driver is telling you where to go, what to do, and how to be – ALL DAY LONG. It’s no mystery why you (and me) can become easily confused, not to mention exhausted. There’s a way out of this and it begins by asking this simple question: Which voice(s) do I choose to obey or ignore? This is a life-shaping question as your answers will absolutely shape your destiny. Why? Because these voices always carry messages that are trying to warn,...read more
